Welcome

We welcome you; come as your are. We are committed to growing together as we learn to apply the biblical ideas of love and grace in our daily lives. We are also committed to the well-being of marriage and family, which we believe is the bedrock of any society. Ultimately, we seek to glorify God in all we do and say.

Meet Our Pastor and his Family

Pastor Walton, a Colorado native, became pastor of the Fairview Baptist Church June of 2001.  His passion continues to be the building of the Church on solid Bible teaching and preaching. The emphasis of his pulpit ministry is on expository preaching. His burden is threefold: To glorify God, the evangelizing of those without Christ, and the equipping of believers to live victorious lives in an increasingly difficult world.  Pastor Walton believes that strong churches are made up of strong families.  Pastor Walton holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Pastoral Theology from Pensacola Christian College of Pensacola, Florida.  Pastor Walton is happily married to Sherri whom he met at college.  They have two daughters who are the pride and joy of his life.  He cordially invites you to come grow with us.

What We Believe

Fundamental: Fairview Baptist Church believes that there are certain essential truths which should be believed and defended by all Christians.

1.  The Scriptures: We believe that the Bible (66 books) was written by men who were moved by the Holy Spirit (2 Peter 1:21) and inspired by God (2 Timothy 3:16). This inspiration was verbal (each word - 1 Corinthians 2:9-13) and plenary (completely - 2 Timothy 3:16-17) and extends to the original writings. It is the true center of Christian union and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and opinions should be tried.

2.  Deity of Christ: We believe that Jesus Christ is fully God. He asserts oneness with the Father (John 10:10) and is called God (Hebrews 1:8). We believe He has the characteristics of God (John. 8:58, Matthew 28:18) and is of the same substance as the Father (Colossians 2:9), therefore, He is God (who Jesus is, is as necessary to the gospel as what He accomplished in His life, death, and resurrection).

3.  Virgin Birth: We believe the coming of Christ "in the flesh" was predicted by Isaiah and processed by the Virgin Birth (Isaiah 7:14; 9:6). He was born of Mary alone (Matthew 1:16) and conceived of the Holy Spirit (Luke 1:35).

4.  Substitutionary Atonement: We believe Christ died in the place of sinners (1 Peter 3:18) in order to pay the debt owed by sinful man to a righteous God (1 John 2:2).

5.  Bodily Resurrection of Christ: We believe Christ arose from death and the grave after three days (Luke 24:36-46; 1 Corinthians 15:1-4).

6.  Human Sexuality: We believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any form of homosexuality, lesbianism, bisexuality, bestiality, incest, fornication, adultery, and pornography are sinful perversions of God’s gift of sex. We believe that God disapproves of and forbids any attempt to alter one’s gender by surgery or appearance. (Genesis 2:24; 19:5, 13; Leviticus 18:1-30; Romans 1:26-29; 1 Corinthians 5:1; 6:9-10;    1 Thessalonians 4:1-8; Hebrews 13:4).

We believe that the only legitimate marriage is the joining of one man and one woman. (Genesis 2:24; Rom. 7:2; 1 Corinthians 7:10; Ephesians 5:22-23).

7.  Family Relationships: We believe that men and women are spiritually equal in position before God but that God has ordained distinct and separate spiritual functions for men and women in the home and the church. The husband is to be the leader of the home, and men are to be the leaders (pastors and deacons) of the church. Accordingly, only men are eligible for licensure and ordination by the church. (Galatians 3:28; Colossians 3:18;    1 Timothy 2:8-15; 3:4-5, 12).

We believe that God has ordained the family as the foundational institution of human society. The husband is to love his wife as Christ loves the church. The wife is to submit herself to the scriptural leadership of her husband as the church submits to the headship of Christ. Children are an heritage from the Lord. Parents are responsible for teaching their children spiritual and moral values and leading them, through consistent lifestyle example and appropriate discipline, including scriptural corporal correction. (Genesis 1:26-28; Exodus 20:12; Deuteronomy 6:4-9; Psalm 127:3-5; Proverbs 19:18; 22:15; 23:13-14; Mark 10:6-12; I Corinthians 7:1-16; Ephesians 5:21-33; 6:1-4, Colossians 3:18-21; Hebrews 13:4; I Peter 3:1-7).

8. Divorce and Remarriage: We believe that God disapproves of and forbids divorce and intends marriage to last until one of the spouses dies. Although divorced and remarried persons or divorced persons may hold positions of service in the church and be greatly used of God for Christian service, they may not be considered for the offices of pastor or deacon. (Malachi 2:14-17; Matthew 19:3-12; Romans 7:1-3; 1 Timothy 3:2, 12; Titus 1:6).

9.  Abortion: We believe that human life begins at conception and that the unborn child is a living human being. Abortion constitutes the unjustified, unexcused taking of unborn human life. Abortion is murder. We reject any teaching that abortions of pregnancies due to rape, incest, birth defects, gender selection, birth or population control, or the physical or mental well-being of the mother are acceptable. (Job 3:16; Psalm 51:5; 139:14-16; Isaiah 44:24; 49:1, 5; Jeremiah 1:5; 20:15-18; Luke 1:44).

Baptist: Fairview Baptist Church believes in the truths which historically have separated Baptists from other denominations:

Bible as our sole authority of faith and practice (2 Peter 1:3; 2 Timothy 3:16-17).

Autonomy of the local church (Acts 6:1-6; Matthew 18:17).

Priesthood of all true believers (1 Peter 2:9).

Two office: Pastor and Deacon (1 Timothy 3:1-15; Titus 1:6-9).

Individual soul liberty (2 Corinthians 4:2; 5:10; Titus 1:9).

Saved and baptized church membership (Ephesians 4:3; 1 Corinthians 12:12; 2 Corinthians 6:14).

Two ordinances: Baptism and The Lord's Supper (Matthew 28:19-20; 1 Corinthians 11:23-34).

Separation of church and state (Matthew 22:21; Romans 13:1).

Sunday School

We believe that an education in the Word of God is as crucial as the education a child receives in school. Accordingly, we take great care in providing a comfortable environment in which teaching the Word of God to children is primary.

Our teachers are experienced and skilled in providing this education. Our teachers are the type of role models that parents expect and pray for to assist them in rearing their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

We partner with the Joyful Life Sunday School Program and Regular Baptist Press for the basic materials that are used.

Missions

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world" (Mt 28:19-20).

Fairview Baptist Church is committed to taking the gospel of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth beginning in Denver, Colorado.

Our church has a long history of commitment to missions through prayer, monthly support, and special needs offerings.
